The Pocket Ranger is a way to add value to the experience of walking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing by interpreting the landscape and its stories, but in a manner which doesn t leave any visual impact. Project Tongariro, a local non profit community group with strong conservation values has partnered with the Department of Conservation to develop the Pocket Ranger and hopes that along with providing an amazing tool for visitors to the region, they also gain profile and generate income so they can continue to sustain the natural heritage, history, education and recreation projects they undertake in Tongariro National Park.
